KVPY 2016 Exam Date is tentatively expected to be in the first week of November 2016. There would be a newspaper notification for the KVPY 2016 Exam Date on 11th May 2016 and 10th June 2016. About KVPY 2016 Exam:

Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) is an on-going National Program of Fellowships in Basic Sciences, initiated and funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, aimed at encouraging students to take up research careers in the areas of basic sciences, engineering and medicine since 1999. The Department of Science and Technology, the nodal agency of the Government has entrusted the overall responsibility for organizing and running the KVPY Program to the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.  

Eligibility Criteria for KVPY 2016 Exam:

  1. The KVPY Fellowships are given to Indian Nationals only to Study in India (Students holding PIO, OCI Card and students intending to pursue / pursing under graduate program under Distance Education scheme / correspondence course of any university are not eligible to apply).
  2. Students enrolled in an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences, that is, B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Stat. / B.Math. / Int. M.Sc. / M.S. in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Ecology, Molecular Biology, Botany, Zoology, Physiology, Biotechnology, Neurosciences, Bioinformatics, Marine Biology, Geology, Human Biology, Genetics, Biomedical Sciences, Applied Physics, Geophysics, Materials Science or Environmental Science are eligible.

KVPY Streams:

Candidates can qualify for the KVPY Fellowship through various streams depending on the following factors, as mentioned across the respective streams:

  1. Stream SA: Students enrolled in XI Standard (Science Subjects) during the academic year 2015-16 and having secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC / ST / PWD) marks in aggregate in MATHEMATICS and SCIENCE subjects in the X Standard Board examination. The fellowship of the students selected under this stream will be activated only if they join an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences (B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Stat. / B.Math. / Int. M.Sc. / M.S.) in the academic year 2017-18 after having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC / ST / PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects in the XII standard / (+2) Board Examination. During the interim period of one year they will be invited for Regional /National (Vijyoshi) Science Camp and their travel and other related expenses will be met by KVPY.
  1. Stream SX: Students enrolled in XII Standard/ (+2) (Science subjects) during the academic year 2015–16 and aspiring to join undergraduate program in Basic Sciences namely Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Stat. / B.Math. / Int. M.Sc. / M.S. for the session 2016–17 provided they have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC / ST / PWD) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects (Physics / Chemistry / Biology) in the X Standard Board Examination and a minimum of 60% (50% for SC / ST / PWD) marks in aggregate in Science subjects (Physics / Chemistry / Biology) in the XII standard Board Examination.
    Students in their 2nd year of study in Cambridge International Examination Board and aspiring to join an UG program (viz. B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Stat. / B.Math. / Int. M.Sc. / M.S.) in Basic Sciences namely Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology in the Academic year 2016-17 are eligible to apply provided they have secured a minimum of 80% (70% for SC / ST / PWD) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects (Physics / Chemistry / Biology) in the X Standard Board Examination. They must secure 60% (50% for SC / ST / PWD) marks in aggregate in Mathematics and Science subjects (Physics / Chemistry / Biology) in the XII standard Board Examination before taking up the fellowship, if awarded.
  1. Stream SB: Students enrolled in the 1st year of undergraduate program in Basic Sciences namely Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics & Biology leading to B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Stat. / B.Math. / Int. M.Sc. / M.S. during the academic year 2015–16 and having secured a minimum of 60% (50% for SC / ST / PWD) marks in aggregate in SCIENCE subjects (Physics/Chemistry/Biology/Mathematics) in the XII Standard Board Examination. In the 1st year final examination of B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Math. / B.Stat. / Int. M.Sc. / M.S. they must secure 60% (50% for SC / ST / PWD) marks before taking up the fellowship, if awarded.

Exam Pattern for KVPY 2016:

The examination is conducted by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in two stages on KVPY 2016 Exam Date – first of which is a written aptitude test following which, students are shortlisted for the interview.

The written aptitude test is conducted in two ways-

  1. Online or computer based mode, and
  2. Hard copy or paper-pen based mode

The exam is available in Hindi and English languages.

Syllabus for KVPY 2016:

There is no prescribed syllabus for the written exam. The written exam aims to test the understanding and analytical ability of the student than his/her factual knowledge. However, students are tested for the syllabus up to class X/XII/1st year of B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. as applicable.

The Scholarships:

If a candidate qualifies through the final round of the KVPY exam, then he/she will be eligible for the KVPY Fellowship, for which the following benefits will be made available, according to the following category:

  1. SA/SX/SB (during 1st to 3rd years of B.Sc. / B.S. / B.Stat. / B.Math / Integrated M.Sc. / M.S.) – Rs. 5000 per month, with an additional Rs. 20,000 annually.
  2. SA/SX/SB (during M.Sc. / 4th to 5th year of Integrated M.Sc. / M.S. / M.Math. / M.Stat.) – Rs. 7000 per month, with an additional Rs. 28,000 annually.

Other interesting Privileges includes: Every KVPY fellow will be issued an Identity Card so as to have an access to National Laboratories / Universities who have agreed to extend special privileges like library, laboratory facilities, etc. on the production of the said ID card. Moreover, students who qualify for KVPY are eligible for admission into various institutes including: Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc); Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER); National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), under certain criteria.

How to apply for KVPY 2016:

Candidates applying for KVPY Fellowship Exam are required to apply only through the KVPY website: http://www.kvpy.iisc.ernet.in/. No other means/mode of application will be accepted.

Before proceeding to filling up the Online Application, the candidates should have scanned image of their (a) Photograph and (b) Signature (c) Caste / Disability certificate as applicable, in CD/DVD/Pen drive as per their convenience. These documents will be required for uploading and submission of your Online Application.

A valid E-mail and Mobile Number is mandatory for the registration of your Online Application. This E-Mail and Mobile number should be kept active till the declaration of results. KVPY will send important information with regard to your application and examination on this registered E-Mail/Mobile number.

After receiving your User ID and Password on mail you will not be able to edit certain fields of the Online Application. Candidates are hence requested to fill in the online application form with the utmost care as no correspondence regarding change of details will be entertained.

Step-by-step Instruction for KVPY 2016 Online Application:

Step 1:   Candidates are first required to go to the KVPY website at http://kvpy.iisc.ernet.in/main/index.htm  once the KVPY 2016 exam date is announced through the newspaper. Here you will find the following link for Online Application for KVPY – Candidates can click on this Link to apply for the entrance exam by filling up the online application.

Step 2:   Make a note of the eligibility criteria and important dates. Click on the link “Online Application for KVPY ”. You will be directed to the Login Page.

Step 3:   If you are a first time user, you will have to first register by clicking on the link provided for registration. Complete your registration by filling in your Name, Email id and Mobile number. On successful registration, you will receive your User ID and Password on your registered Email and Mobile No.

Please Note- Subsequent to receiving your User ID and Password, you will not be able to edit your Name, Email and Mobile Number. In Case you need to change these fields then you will have to repeat Step 1 to 3 and obtain a new User ID and Password.

Step 4:   If you have received your User ID and Password, login from the candidate login Page using your Candidate ID and Password. After logging in with your Candidate ID and Password you can:

  • View your partially filled application form,
  • Edit your application information (except some fields) by clicking on the “Edit” button, and
  • Upload the mandatory documents like scanned photograph, signature and Caste / Disability certificate as applicable.

Fill your (a) Personal Details (b) Academic details and (c) Upload Exam Preference.

Notes, Instructions and Important Links will guide you to fill the application accurately. Please read them carefully.

Step 5:   After filling in all your mandatory details, click on “Preview Application” to view your filled application and verify the details entered by you.

This is also one last chance for you to edit the information in your application except your Name, Email and Mobile Number.

Click on the “Submit” button to complete your application.

Payment of application fees for KVPY 2016: Now Re-login using the User ID and Password that was sent at the time of registration. You will see a preview of your application. At the top right hand corner, there will be an EDIT button. Click on this to do the online or challan payment.

Step 6:   If you choose to pay the exam fees Online, you can pay your fees either through Internet Banking, Credit card or Debit card.

If you choose to pay the exam fees through Challan, you will have to take a print out of Challan and make a payment in any SBI Branch before the last date for application. After the payment is complete candidates must re-login to upload a scanned copy of the duly filled challan and Bank details. Your application will not be complete without uploading the challan.

Step 7:   After completion of your payment either through online or challan click on the “Submit” button, to complete the payment process, You will get a message on top of the Application Form as “Your Application is on Scrutiny”.

Step 8: The Scrutiny of your application will take atleast TWO working days from the time you successfully submitted your application. Candidates are advised to go to the login page again (after atleast two days) to check the status of their application. If you get a message on top of your application which says “Your application is successfully submitted” you may take a print out of the same for KVPY 2016 Exam date.

 Please do NOT send a copy of your application or challan to the KVPY office.

Note:

1. Please fill your application with utmost care.

2. Take care to upload the right documents, Photograph and Signature.

3. If you upload Wrong documents or Wrongly upload documents in Wrong place; Ex: Photo in place of signature or signature in place of photo, then you will have to Re- Apply your online application again.
